Back-to-School at SAFE Homeschool

We’ve all spent our summer differently. Some of us made countless memories in the sun, others stalled inside to beat the heat. Upcoming graduates may have spent their vacation time researching scholarships, while younger children brim with excitement for their first day of kindergarten. No matter what stage of life a student is in, the back-to-school transition can come with a lot of mixed feelings. It’s normal to go through a pinwheel of emotions when change happens—anticipation, worry, stress. But the Bible reminds us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has not given us a spirit of fear. With that, we can look to the 2025-2026 school year with a positive attitude, knowing that nothing is impossible with Christ. Our perspective can make or break the success of the school year.

Students aren’t the only ones ready for the back-to-school season. Behind the scenes, SAFE’s educators are working hard to ensure the best for their classes. Ms. Diane Parker, whose Shakespeare and Drama classes are a familiar favorite among students, says this about the new academic term:

As we start a new school year, we need to realize that we’re each on the verge of an adventure just like Bilbo in the beginning of ‘The Hobbit.’ He could’ve stayed home, but he stepped out of his comfort zone, made new friends, and he had an adventure. Step out of your comfort zone this school year, make new friends, and see every day as an adventure! That’s what I’m going to do! – Diane Parker, SAFE Educator

This advice should resonate with all of us. This school year is much more than just another calendar date, it’s a chance for us students to take a step forward and seize the day. If we become so hyperfixated with our fears, rather than looking forward with anticipation of new opportunities, how much will we miss out on? Stepping outside of one’s comfort zone looks different for each person. Whether it’s choosing the populated table at lunch or finally joining the class you vowed to try—take the stand! One student’s bravery may be the start of a chain reaction that encourages their peers to make this year their best yet.

Among students and educators, we must also recognize the women who have worked hard to organize all of these back-to-school affairs: the 2025-2026 SAFE Board. Under the presidency of Jessica Fraser, the Board takes on responsibility for steering us through the academic year. It is vital that we keep these women in our prayers as they make decisions. We applaud each member of the SAFE Board for their willingness to serve their homeschool community. A word from Ms. Fraser gives us a beautiful idea of their goals:

“Our vision for SAFE this year is that we come together as a like-minded ‘village,’ to follow Christ’s example by loving and serving each other well for God’s glory and all of our good.” — Jessica Fraser, SAFE President

Without all of those who contribute (parents, educators, board members), SAFE would not be what it is today. Our first Club Day on August 19th was not an impromptu, on-a-whim success—it was an intentional effort. We prepared, we showed up, and we gave our all. Let’s continue this new school year with the same mindset!
