Educator Biography
I’m Melissa wife to Elliott (23 years) and mom to 3 girls, Olivia (age 17), Ella (age 14), and Adeline (age 8). I have been homeschooling our girls since Olivia started 1st grade. She recently graduated from high school and will be attending USC-Columbia. We are active members of the Lake City United Methodist Church.
I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Psychology from USC and pursued and Educational Specialist degree in School Psychology at The Citadel. I worked in the public and private school systems as a School Psychologist II for 16 years. In addition to working as a School Psychologist, I worked one on one with students with learning disabilities providing reading remediation services.
I have been teaching at Club Day for the last 3 years and have enjoyed it immensely. My one regret in my 12 years of homeschooling is not joining SAFE and Club Day sooner. Over the last 3 years I’ve taught classes at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Some of the classes I’ve taught include Poetry Tea Time, Elementary Science, Bird Study, Gameschooling, Creativity, Nature Study, Philosophy, Photography, Lego Club, Math is Fun, Op Art, Math and Art, and US History. Creating interesting and engaging classes and teaching at Club Day has become one of my favorite things about homeschooling, and I’m looking forward to another great year!
