Educator Biography
My name is Melissa Johnson. My husband, Adam (of almost 17 years), my two boys, and I live on Lake Marion in Summerton. I am a homeschool mom to two boys, Tristan (9th Grade) and Aidan (6th Grade). I have been homeschooling for going on 9 years. I never dreamed that I would be homeschooling my kids, let along teaching classes at our homeschool group. It’s been a wonderful experience for us all. I’ve been a member of SAFE for 3 years, teaching classes from our first semester. I’ve taught science units such as Birds, Volcanology, Motions and Simple Machines, Zoology, Paleontology, and Marine Biology. I’ve also taught history units such as World War 2, SC Native Americans, Titanic, and Real-Life Pirates. I like to incorporate some literature into whatever subject I’m teaching, along with some hands-on activities. We’ve enjoyed being members of this homeschool community, where we’ve found support, new friends, and awesome experiences.
