Educator Biography
Hi! I’m Emily, wife to Dave (16 years) and mom to one son, Fuller, age 12. I work from home full-time in the health information field as a medical record coding auditor and educator. A large part of my role is creating training and educational materials and conducting training and education sessions one-on-one and in group settings for adult learners who are medical record coders. I’ve been in this field for 13 years now. Prior to that, I worked for the State of South Carolina for 10 years as a Revenue Officer, often being chosen by our Training Department to create training materials and lead training classes for fellow employees.
Our family lives in Calhoun County which is where I was born and raised. We moved back to the area from Columbia, SC in 2009. For seven years, between 2015 and 2022, I served on the board for Calhoun County Cares, a non-profit organization that raises money through the operation of a thrift store to give back to the citizens of Calhoun County in many ways such as helping pay for prescription medications and helping pay utility bills for elderly residents. As a member of that organization, I organized and hosted an annual community Thanksgiving meal and canned food drive. For the past six years, between 2018 and 2024, I served as a board member and then as president of a local animal rescue organization, For the Love of a Paw, located in Elloree, SC. During those years, our family spent countless hours volunteering together in many capacities in service and advancement of the rescue.
We began homeschooling in 2020. This fall we are beginning our 5th year homeschooling and our 4th year as part of the SAFE family.
